WOW! What a time we have been having. The Shop Hop was wonderful. Thank you for your response. We had a great turn out and think that was just what we needed to put us on the map. We sold 84 table runner kits which means that somewhere between 25% and 35% of all those visiting the shop during those three days bought a runner kit. There was (unfortunately) an error in the directions and if you have a kit, the correction is as follows. In the “Cutting” #1 It was left in by mistake. Start with #2 step and proceed as follows:
Cut two 12” x 15” rectangles from tan mottled for appliqué area. Cut two 11 ½” X 18” C rectangles from fabric stabilizer Cut three 2 ½” x 45” D strips from outer boarder fabric Cut three 1” x 45” strips from inner boarder fabric Cut three 45” x 2 ½” strips for binding Cut holly leaves & yo-yos from 1/8 yd green and red mottles And then cut the remainder of green and red mottles as well and remainder of all other 1/8 yard strips into 2” x 4 ½” inch pieces for rail fence blocks
We apologize for the errors in the direction. First time attempts are sometimes not what we hope for and this was no exception. We promise to do better next year. You may have heard that we will be doing the same thing in Oct. 2008 and we have already begun to gather ideas for next year’s runner.
Things are pretty quiet here at the shop after so much work getting ready for the Shop Hop. A special THANK YOU is owed to all the volunteer helpers that made the whole thing possible!!!! We would never have made it without them. Unfortunately, several of them are now packing up to head for warmer climes for the winter. How SAD! Guess I’ll just have to put my head down and cut kits until spring!
We have learned a great deal during the past five months and know that it (QUILTING) is very much an ongoing learning process. Seldom does a conversation take place in here that we don’t hear a new tip for better quilting results. One thing that has become obvious is that there are a lot of folks who have begun quilting without having had a beginning class. Diana Orr has put together two classes for beginners. One is a one day (9-1) on Nov 7th. It will yield a three block table runner and will include the basics of rotary cutting, ½ square triangles and just the basics of getting started efficiently and safely. The other will be either the first three Saturdays or the first three Thursdays in January (9-1 or2) and will yield a lap size sampler. It is a more in depth workshop but still the basics, just more of them. The one day is for those who just can’t get three consecutive weeks for a class but still need the help and is $35.00 plus materials. The three week workshop is $55.00 plus materials. Both are a lot of information for the money and well worth while. If you are interested or have a friend who might be, please get in touch soon as class size is limited to 6 in each one and will fill quickly.
Colleen Baker is going to be offering a class from 5:30-7:30 pm on Tues. in January. This will include hand quilting on whole cloth and hand appliqué. We will be putting together a kit for those who want it from our fabrics. The cost for the class, including the kit will be $40.00. You can learn hand quilting and appliqué techniques from no one better than Colleen. (Long Pause Here)
The Fed Ex. Man just left. He brought in a large shipment of “stuff”. It includes (all flat folds) which includes 18 different baby panels ($6.00ea.)/ some with coordinating prints, children’s novelty prints, including Batman, Spiderman, Star Wars etc., quilters calicos , solids and blenders. Some really pretty stuff, descent quality and affordable. Yes, I have had to raise the prices a tad, but the freight is killing me. I can’t figure out how when gas is no higher now than it was last summer the shippers still feel free to up their prices, but they do. My prices from wholesalers continue to rise as well. I’m doing the best I can on prices and hope you will be able to understand.
We have a new top ready for viewing. It’s the Cactus Wreath pattern and it is a knock out.
Also just got a new bolt of Thimbelberries Christmas Cover Story as we sold out the first bolt before we even got the sample quilted and on the wall. This one seems to be going quickly as well, so if you are in need of a panel, please just drop me an email or give a call and I will put one (or more) back for you. We still have a few of the “Old Friends New Quilts” panels left with coordinates but they are getting down so let me know soon if you need one of those.
We are hard at work designing several classes for Spring. Everyone has loved the Anka’s Treasures patterns so much we will be doing at least two more quilts from that book. Sylvia will be working away this winter (while she suffers in the heat of Arizona) putting together samples for those. Diana is working on a really cute sunflower placemat class for February 13th. We will get the pictures for these on the web page as soon as they are complete.
We will try to get our act together for a sale in December or January so save your money. We are putting together some bundles of ½ yd pieces of Debbie Mumm now and should have those ready to go next week. Come on in for a bargain. Until we see you. Stay safe and keep quilting.
