THIMBLEBERRIES CLUB - LODGE & LAKESIDE ! Thimbleberries Club All the Thimbleberries Babes seem to be having a Grrrrreat time at their monthly meeting. Jerri has been doing a fabulous job leading the pack with games and prizes and lots and lots of kit cutting! We are half way through our thimbleberries year and all the T.B. Babes seem to be getting along with their quilt very well. In June we gave away perfect attendance prizes to two lucky ladies who had attended every meeting, they received a basket of 30 fat quarters and a $30.00 gift certificate each! Congratulations ! We will be hosting Thimbleberries Club again next year and Jerri will, once again, be our fearless leader. Please join us for all the fun! CHARM SWAP!
A Note from Rita:
When I was a child, (yes,
Margaret, back when the wagons were still rolling west) quilts were made of
scraps. I hope that we all have quilts in our collections that hold scraps
left over from other sewing projects. "The Quilt Shop" of today can, and
should, hold to some of the traditions born out of necessity, quilts pieced
from scraps, quilting done with friends around a frame while pot luck dinner
waited to be shared and my family's tradition of one intentional error in each
top because only God can make anything perfect.
In reality, my own hand
will no longer push a quilting needle but I can share my scraps with friends.
We all have a stash of fabrics that we are not likely to use but that might be
just the thing for some one else's project. And let's face it- gas isn't
getting any cheaper and budgets are getting tighter. Perhaps now more than in
recent years at least, we need to get back to some of the practices that
started our families quilting.
We've all at least heard
of "charm quilts" but a lot of us don't have the time to collect all those
fabrics, and lets face it - allot of us have to much fabric we are tired of
looking at! A charm Quilt is often the perfect take along project because
there is really no matching to be done. In most cases we just pick up the
next piece and add it in. I have a king size charm quilt that I pieced in
order to stay awake at required meetings. Some parts of that quilt are VERY
well traveled.
Now where do we get all
those one of a kind pieces you may ask??
A charm swap of course!
Here's what we do:
1) Gather up all those
pieces you have been hoarding but for which you have no assigned use.
2) Wash and press all the
fabrics ( no fabric softener and the use of Best Press is always appreciated)
3) Cut fabric into
approximately 10"x10" squares (on the grain please)
4) Bring your scraps and
come to FABRIC & FRIENDS on the Second Saturday of the month.
It's an even swap - for
each piece you put in you take one piece.
Fabrics and Friends will
have references on hand from which you can copy patterns for charm quilts, as
well as some old time scrappy favorites.
We will have one area for
pre-washed fabrics and one for unwashed so please don't let a lack of laundry
time keep you at home.
Please join us on the
second Saturday of each month and swap yourself silly!
Shop Hours of operation Tuesday - Friday 9am - 5pm Saturday 9-2pm
We have another line of blenders to choose from designed by Jenny Beyer from RJR fabrics. Within this collection of blenders you will be able to find a pleasing combination for any focus fabric. In addition we have added several new collections from various manufacturers.
We carry the complete line of Prescencia Embroidery floss which we hope you will find superior to other brands. This floss is guaranteed not to run, bleed, fade or bleach ! We have used it ourselves and found it to be a better product in that it's silky texture pulls easily, and is more resistant to fraying and knotting. In addition we now have a selection of Jack Dempsey pre-stamped products as well as hoops, needle cases and a beginning selection of embroidery supplies. Also for you really artsy stitchers we are now carrying WEEKS DYE WORKS floss. This is hand dyed, over dyed floss in 5 yard skains. It is wonderful stuff. Like stitching with butter!
Fabrics & Friends has Quilting Fabrics and Notions for all your needs, with an ever expanding line of MODA, Thimbleberries, RJR, Blant textiles, Benartex and many others. New needle arts arriving daily ...with Prescencia Floss, Weeks Dye Works floss and counted crossstitch supplies.
See you soon, we hope. Rita & Laura Fabrics and Friends - What more do we need?
